Soul Notes: A Love Letter to Your Spacious Life

Your life was never meant to be one long list of things to get through.

There is a particular kind of tiredness that comes from moving from one responsibility to the next, even when the things you are doing matter. The days fill themselves so easily. There is always something to tend to, someone to think about, a little task waiting in the wings.

And before you know it, the hours that belonged to you have been given away in small pieces.

But there is another way to live inside your days. Not by walking away from the people you love or the things that matter, but by allowing yourself to take up a little more room in your own life.

Imagine having a morning that doesn’t begin with urgency. A few extra minutes to sit by the window. A walk that follows the winding path instead of the quickest one. An evening with nothing pressing you toward the next thing.

What might you begin to hear when your day isn’t so crowded with demands?

There is beauty in having room to choose.

White space gives you the chance to discover what you actually want, rather than simply responding to what is expected of you. It lets you feel the difference between a commitment that brings meaning to your life and one you have been carrying out of habit.

It allows a new idea to find you, a forgotten interest to return, or a desire to take shape without immediately asking it to justify itself.

And sometimes, making space begins with the smallest of choices. Leaving a little white space on your calendar. Saying, not today to something that can wait. Giving yourself permission to enjoy an hour without needing to make it useful.

Your body may even tell you when there is room to spare. Your shoulders settle. Your jaw softens. Your thoughts become less insistent. You notice the world around you again, and perhaps you notice yourself, too.

You are allowed to create a life that has room for your own needs, your own pleasures, and the things you have yet to discover about yourself.

Let your life have a little breathing room.

You have lived enough to know that a full calendar and a full heart are not necessarily the same thing. You know how much can be accomplished in a day, how many people you can care for, how much you can hold. Perhaps this season is inviting you to become curious about what else a day might hold when you don’t fill every available moment.

More lingering. More laughter that comes out of nowhere. More time to follow an idea simply because it interests you. More opportunities to feel the quiet satisfaction of being exactly where you want to be.

You don’t need to rearrange your entire life to begin. You might simply leave one afternoon open, take the longer way home, or let yourself sit for a while after finishing a meal. Give something a little more time than it needs. Give yourself a little more room than you usually allow.

And as you do, notice what begins to emerge when you are no longer rushing to fill every space. Perhaps you’ll begin to feel more at home in yourself. As you take time to exhale, perhaps an interest, a desire, or an unexpected longing will rise to the surface.

White space is the perfect space for the beautifully unexpected to make you feel alive again.

And in case you’ve forgotten dear one…

You are allowed to make choices that give something back to you.

You are allowed to build a life that feels spacious enough for the woman you are, and the woman you are still becoming.

With love,
Yourself
